Jimmy Osgood was a student at Dakota Union High School. Osgood kept to himself and operated in his own world. He had a talent for creativity and owned a prop from Star Force and lava lamp. His shyness made him a target for bullies. Virgil Hawkins and Richie Foley befriended him, but after Osgood tried to show them his father's handgun, relations were strained. However, Osgood apologized and hung at the Freeman Community Center. He then volunteered to help with Frieda Goren's Fright Fest. After overhearing a conversation between Nick Connor and Goren, Osgood was shoved into a locker by Connor.
Osgood wasn't seen for several days. Robert and Virgil Hawkins spoke to Mr. Osgood and discovered his handgun was missing and his son kept a Battle Journal. Feeling humiliated, Osgood decided he was going to put a stop to it. Osgood appeared at the Community Center while students took down displays and decorations from the Fright Fest. He pulled the gun on Connor. Goren and Foley tried to talk him out it but Connor's friends, Ray and Kevin jumped Osgood. A shot was fired and injured Foley in one of his legs. Static appeared and secured the gun. Still angry and confused, Osgood curled up into a fetal position. He was sent to juvenile hall and assigned to counseling.
