Walt Merkin was born and raised in Hillsburg, Oregon. He grew up with Ro Rowan and Tiffy Morgan. Merkin was something of a childhood rival of Rowan's. Since then, he is involved in a romantic relationship with Morgan.
On the eve of a showing of Romeo and Juliet, Merkin encountered Rowan and Adam Heat, Zeta in disguise, whom he didn't care for much. He was further angered when Heat was asked to replace him as Romeo. Delegated to scenery projector, Merkin was bitter and just as amazed when Heat turned into a robot. He attempted to destroy it but almost destroyed the Hillsburg Community Theater in the process. Sheriff Morgan stopped Merkin and let Zeta and Rowan escape.
