Al McGee was John Stewart's history teacher but has since retired and spends his days in leisure whether it is hanging out at the local barber shop or playing basketball with his grandson, Chris. Stewart returned home and encountered the two who had no idea that he became a Green Lantern, much less a super hero.
When the super villain, Dr. Destiny attempted to take down the League by trapping them in their dreams to die, Al and Chris McGee briefly appeared in Stewart's dream.

Chris is the grandson of Al McGee. Al remarked that Chris' strongest characteristics are that he is smart, headstrong and impatient; much like how his student John Stewart was at that age. Chris, after learning Stewart was a super hero, tends to idolize him.
