Kenny Braverman was a rival of Clark Kent when both attended Smallville High School. Although a student athlete, Braverman often came in second to Clark Kent, who was just discovering his super powers. During a school function, Braverman appeared and challenged Kent to a one-on-one game of basketball. Kent overpowered Braverman and ended up tossing him halfway across the room. After the humiliation, Braverman and his crew hung out at Pop's Coffee Shop, a diner outside of Smallville. Brainiac entered the diner and interrogated Braverman for the location of Clark Kent. Braverman mockingly referred to it as a sci-fi movie villain. He ended up passed out atop the Pop's Coffee Shop sign. The next morning, Saturn Girl's memory manipulation led Braverman and others to think a twister caused all the destruction attributed to Brainiac.
