Bret is a teenager who was working a summer job for the Vernet Medical Research Center. Along with his co-worker, Jake, Bret was assigned to maintaining and piloting the Center's two submarines. After Rowan convinced Bret to take her out on the submarine, Bret disobeyed two established rules: to not tax the weight limit of the submarine and not to go near the reef. During the trip, Bret was knocked unconscious leaving Rowan and Bennett Jr. alone to survive. Bret survived the crisis, being unconscious the whole time, and was most likely fired for breach of rules.
