Originally, Tokyo was founded in 1457 as Edo, a small fishing village. Edo first came into strategic importance when Tokugawa Ieyasu took it as his capital and made it the base of the military government, the Bakufu. It was later renamed Tokyo or "Eastern Capital." Today, Tokyo is the most famous of 47 prefectures in Japan. Tokyo is located in the Kanto region on the island of Honshu. With a population over 12 million, Tokyo is one of the world's most populated metropolitan areas and one of the world's economic centers along with London and New York City.
During Christmas, the Flash visited Mr. Hama, head of the Tokyo-based company that manufactures the DJ Rubber Ducky toy. Aware of the Flash's dediation to social service, Mr. Hama obliged Flash's request and gifted him the last Ducky for the children of the Central City Orphange. Years later, Supergirl became Japan's latest trend. During a convention, several fans dressed as Supergirl but it was cut short when a giant mutated turtle rampaged through Tokyo. Green Lantern, Stripe, and Stargirl were dispatched to stop it. Supergirl suddenly flew in and upstaged everyone. A short time later, Tokyo was one of the cities chosen by Darkseid to be turned into a Fire Pit to facilitate the planet's transformation into a second Apokolips. The Justice League Unlimited and Legion of Doom intervened and saved Earth.
