Phoenix Pharmaceuticals is a leading pharmaceutical wholesaler headquartered in Germany, is based in 20 countries worldwide, and has 100,000 product offerings. Aside from Axis Chemicals and Daggett Industries, Phoenix is the only local manufacturer for acids and other corrosive compounds in Gotham City. On July 14, 1995, Man Bat broke into the Gotham City branch's fourth floor and stole chemicals from a laboratory. They were crucial ingredients for Dr. Langstrom's Man Bat formula. The security guard on duty, an aspiring broadcast journalist, was recording himself and encountered the Man Bat. The theft was on the news and blamed on Batman. While investigating Phoenix the next day, Batman discovered the guard's recorder and was attacked by the Gotham City Police Department's SWAT Team. He escaped with one SWAT in tow after his team threw tear gas into a chemical storeroom and caused an explosion on the third floor.
