Normandy has had a history of invasions. It is located between the English Channel and the northern coast of France. The first known invasion was in 4th to 3rd century B.C. by a collective of Belgians and Celts known as the Gauls. Much later, Julius Caesar's forces took over and spread their laws. By the 4th century, Saxon pirates and Germanic tribes were invading from both sides. The Romans soon withdrew. In the 9th century, the area was conquered by Robert of Normandy and established it as a fief. Now named Normandy, it became an area of contention between Britian and France for 400 years.

On June 22, 1940, Nazi Germany occupied Normandy as part of an armistice signed between them and France. The Allied Forces coordinated a massive invasion of Normandy codenamed Operation Overlord. Unsure of the exact location, the Nazi's fortified every beach. On June 6, 1944, the invasion took place but Nazi leader, Vandal Savage somehow knew the secret location and sent a force of War Wheels to assist. The Allies were decimated until the surprise appearance of the Justice League. While Wonder Woman, J'onn Jonzz and Green Lantern separated from the League, Superman, Hawkgirl, and the Flash remained behind to help the Allies regroup in preparation for turning the tide against Germany.
