After the Near Apocalypse of 2009, Gotham City was one of the many cities that lay in ruin. A global effort to rebuild took place and essentially, a second city was built over most of Gotham City aside from Old Town. Gotham City was renamed Neo Gotham and is a symbol of the future. Neo Gotham inherited its predecessor's corruption problems and foreboding dark deco architecture. Some notable areas in it are Wayne-Powers Corporation, FoxTeca, Hamilton Hill High School, Gotham Shipping, Gotham Cryogenics, Gotham Hill Arena, The Chimera Institute, Cheezy Dan's, Gotham Bio-Park, and Shimano Industries. Center City, Philadelphia is a stop on Monorail 8's route from Neo Gotham's hover rail station. Another city on the station's route is Dakota City, Michigan.
In the 2050's, a new Batman emerged and declared a second war on crime. Since then; super villains, assassins, thieves, and other superstitous cowardly lot were kept in check. The lower levels of Neo Gotham have become a known refuge for criminal activity yet the police lack the resources to do anything about it as well as being drowned in bureaucracy. In the past, Neo Gotham has been visited by Zeta, Static, Superman, units of the Justice League Unlimited, Phantasm, Inque, the Royal Flush Gang, the Society of Assassins, the Brain Trust, and Ra's al Ghul (posing as Talia).
