The Himalayas is massive mountain range that includes the world's highest peaks such as that of Mount Everest. It's coverage includes six countries: Afghanistan, Bhutan, China, India, Nepal, and Pakistan. Although it is considered the youngest by geologic age, the Himalayas have 100's of mountains, 100's of lakes, 15,000 glaciers, and believed to sustain over a billion people either directly or indirectly. Thus, it is nicknamed "The Roof of the World."
Sometime after the 15th century, Ra's al Ghul discovered a Lazarus Pit inside one of the many mountains of the Himalayas. Because of its isolation, Ra's often employs the use of a plane to reach it. Centuries later, Batman deducted that Robin and Talia were being held hostage in the Himalayas. Impressed that he also concluded Ra's was behind the kidnapping, Ra's offered Batman to be his heir. When he denied the offer, Ra's was enraged but began to succomb to old age. Batman and Robin then witnessed an immersion into the Pit and its adverse effects. The duo were left to die in a staged cave-in but they managed to escape. Stranded in the Himalayas, they walked to nearby Nepal and regrouped at the Wayne Enterprises branch.
