Groundwire is a nation-wide cybercafe chain in America that follows an aggressive expansion policy. It was born out of the original notion that cafes are a mode of information exchange between people and to serve as a waystation for travelers. Naturally as technology rapidly evolved, cafes changed with the times. Cybercafes grew in popularity that to some, they were believed to be the main source of public Internet acccess, especially for those who couldn't afford it on their own. Groundwire has become such a facet of daily life that people often believe there is one in every town. Groundwire offers Internet access for an hourly rate, snacks, and various drinks to its patrons.

In the mid-21st century, Zeta and Ro used various Groundwire franchises as their temporary base of operations. There, they gather information on Dr. Selig and other scientists who were on the Zeta Project. The duo were seen in at least seven locations including in Ohio, Malibu Island, and Twin Cities.
