In 10,000 B.C.E., Egypt was populated by man. They lived off of grain until it was overgrazed in 8,000 B.C.E. when their culture was based on agriculture fed by the Nile River. In 6600 B.C.E., Katar and Chay-Ara Hol crashed in Egypt after being sucked into a wormhole. They were greeted by the Egyptians as gods. Realizing they had no means of returning home, the Thanagarian couple decided to use their technology to improve the lives of the locals. Egypt thrived under their rule but soon became a conqueror nation in order to promote further stability. The kingdom of Kahndaq was one such conquest, led by Katar Hol's most trusted general and friend, Bashari. After Ahk-ton was defeated, Kahndaq's champion, Teth Adam, allied himself with Hol. At the same time, Chay-Ara Hol carried on an affair with Bashari only to be discovered by Hath-Set, advisor to the Hol's. One event led to another and the Hol's and Bashari died of poisoned wine. The Hol's and their ship were buried in a secret pyramid chamber riddled with traps and robotic defenders.

In 3150 B.C.E., Egypt was reunified under King Menes and began the notion of ruling dynasties. Though unknown exactly, Thoth Khepera ruled for a 1000 years but was later sealed under her sarcophagus. The oldest surviving document, the Scroll of Osiris, documents her existence and whereabouts. After constant invasion by other countries such as Libyans, Nubians, Assyrians, Persians, and Romans, Egypt slowly assimilated its culture. By the 15th century, the Crusades and Mongol invasion further weakened the Egyptian system. Around this time, Ra's al Ghul secured one half of the Scroll of Osiris and established a hidden sanctuary in Cairo. Then, the weakened economy, disease, and famine crippled it. Napoleon and his French army invaded in 1798, only to be defeated by the Ottomans, Malmuks, and British. Eventually, the Ottoman established power. In 1898, an excavation in Egypt's Canyon of Tombs went awry when a treasure hunter found Khepera and was killed. Nearly 200 years later, Khepera was awakened by Ra's al Ghul and was resealed by Batman.

In the 21st century, Egypt was the site of a brief battle between Superman and Solomon Grundy but more known when Cairo was invaded twice; once by the Imperium and later by Apokoliptian forces. Toyman was one of the known villains teleported to Cairo when the Legion of Doom and Justice League Unlimited allied to challenge Darkseid.
