The Source is one of the original creations of the Presence when the Great Hand facilitated the Big Bang and created the universe. As one of the foundations of the Universal Expression of Energy, the Source is essentially the source of all that exists. It goes by many interpretations; a shared Cosmic Consciousness, the Buddhist concept of Mu, or state of emptiness. It is the origin of the godwave, a wave of pure energy responsible for creating and empowering the Old Gods, New Gods, Greek Gods, Norse Gods, and metahumans with super powers. It lies in the edge of the known universe in the Promethean Galaxy protected by the Source Wall.
Highfather, leader of the New Gods, has the ability to commune with the Source for advice on matters of great importance. In Supertown, a large black rectangular stone is kept in one of the citadels. Through some unexplained means, the Source projects itself from this stone to Highfather as he meditates on his decision. After Darkseid destroyed Supertown, it is unknown if Highfather still communicates with the Source through this medium, a new one, or not at all.
