In the 2050's, three new manmade isotopes were created: Alpha, Beta, and Gamma Sterilium. They were so rare, there is only one of each in existence. Alone, they are useless but combined they create a powerful explosive. They are stored in a solution of metachloric acid at a temperature of 400 degrees. Kobra sought to take over the world and needed the three isotopes to arm a thermal bomb they also planned to steal. However, security was so high that they contracted an outsider to steal the isotopes for them. Known only as the Repeller, he successfully stole the Alpha Sterilium from Gotham University, Beta from the Isotope Research Lab, and Gamma from the Bludhaven Nuclear Facility.
During the raid on the Isotope Lab, Batman attemped to defeat the Repeller. Between each theft, Repeller would store the isotope in a smelting vat at Gotham Steel+Ore, to simulate the conditions needed to keep the isotope from going inert. The Repeller delivered all three isotopes to two Kobra elites, Makeba and Muscles. The three isotopes were later detonated when Kobra's ship was destroyed.
