The people who inhabited Mesa de Oro possessed the Shaman Staff, an object believed to have mystical healing powers. Centuries later, Professor Blackwing acquired the Staff for a tribal arts collection in Metropolis. Unable to sustain his youth from the Lazarus Pit, Ra's Al Ghul had the Staff stolen and planned to take the life essence of Superman. Batman intervened and freed Superman who then destroyed the Staff.
