Roses are perennial, living longer than two years, flower shrubs scientifically classified as in order: Kindgom Plantae, Division Magnoliophyta, Class Magnoliopsida, Order Rosales, Family Rosaceae, Subfamily Rosoideae, and Genus Rosa. There are over 100 known species, protect themselives with prickly stems, and can grow as large as seven meters in height. While they originate from Asia, roses are also native to Africa, Europe, and North America. Roses are known to be easily to hybridize between species, used in preparation of food, and contain a high amount of Vitamin C. Over the centuries, roses stood for love, beauty, and numerous political affiliations.

On the anniversary of his parents' murder, Batman visits the exact site in Crime Alley and lays down a pair of red roses. It appears that until her death, Dr. Leslie Thompkins accompanied Batman on these visits. It is unknown exactly when, but in the 2050's, the elderly Bruce Wayne laid down a pair of alba or white roses.

Poison Ivy saved an endangered wild thorn rose, Rosaceae Vularis, from the site to be used for Stonegate Penitentiary. She then extracted a poison from the rose and plotted revenge against the prison's backer, Harvey Dent. She seduced him and with poisonous lipstick, almost killed him if not for Batman. During the confrontation, Batman traded the rose for the antidote.
