Renu-Yu is a beauty product created by the pharmaceutical company, Daggett Industries. Like most anti-aging creams, Renu-Yu is a mixture of oil, water, and drugs. Its unique feature was the ability to weaken skin cells to allows its user to change their appearance as they saw fit. The potency of ingredients led to heavy addiction in the trial stage with Matt Hagen. Horribly disfigured in a car accident, Hagen was able to hold onto his career by using the cream in exchange for doing odd jobs for Daggett. Undaunted by its dangers, Daggett planned to sell it through direct marketing and with an intended hostile takeover of Wayne Enterprises, Daggett would become rich beyond his wildest dreams using their resources and capacity.

Matt Hagen attempted to steal enough Renu-Yu to end his relationship with Roland Daggett. He broke into a Daggett Laboratories facility but was found out by two henchmen, Germs and Raymond Bell. They force-fed Hagen a massive overdose of the cream. His cells were saturated and he transformed into the monstrosity known as Clayface. When Daggett was promoting Renu-Yu on the Gotham Insider, Clayface appeared and tried to kill Daggett. Batman intervened and defeated Clayface. Renu-Yu was taken off the market and added to a long list of litigation that eventually bankrupt Daggett.
