In the 2050's, the Neo Gotham cell of Kobra began to carry out a bold plan to take over the world. One of the final components of their plan was the R-12 Thermal Bomb. With it, they would detonate it in a rift going halfway down into the Earth's core and start a chain reaction to raise the planet's temperature so that only cold-blooded beings would survive. It is a product of the United States Federal Government and carries an explosive payload strong enough to incinerate half the east coast. One was housed in Neo Gotham's Nova Research Center. A Kobra elite disguised himself as a delivery truck driver and easily infiltrated the Center with a cover story for security. Once inside, he dispatched several Kobra agents to procure the bomb. Just as they were about to escape Batman arrived. However, he was outclassed by the elite soldier and Kobra got away with the bomb.

Thanks to the cooperation of Kairi Tanaga, Batman and Bruce Wayne were able to track Kobra to a toxic waste company. The building turned out to be a ship and the mission became a race against the clock. Kobra's leader, Zander, moved to drop the bomb but Tanaga infiltrated the ship, too, and disabled the bomb's control module. After fatally sabotaging the ship, Kobra and Batman proceeded to escape. Zander and Tanaga were left behind. The ship's explosion then detonated the bomb and surely killed the both of them.
