In the Xeno Galaxy, Psion Receptors were mainstream technology. They are part of every device and emit a carrier wave that is attuned to mental commands. It was something as simple as a remote to a holographic projector Jor-El pre-recorded a message for his son. Once Krypton imploded, the technology was rarely seen again. Upon discovering Argo, Superman activated a message by stepping on a platform then discovered Kara In-Ze.
In the 31st century, Psion Receptors were common in the universe. The Fatal Five used them to take over the minds of the Legion of Superheroes with dials applied to the forehead. Probably modified by Tharok, the dials' carrier waves were masked from even Brainiac 5 to track.
