In the 1960's, Russell Gee, Bill Collins, John De Lorean (engine specialist, chassis engineer, chief engineer respectively) were credited with the creation of a muscle car named the GTO for Pontiac, a division of General Motors. GTO stood for Gran Turismo Omologato and was inspired by the Ferrari 250 GTO. They effectively transformed the Pontiac Tempest with 389 CID (6.5 L) Pontiac V8 engine as a strategy to appeal to youth. Since the GTO violated a GM policy, it was only offered as an option package and given limited production. But to everyone's surprise, it was an instant success and was produced from 1964 to 1974.

In the 21st century, the Question confiscated a Pontiac GTO from an informant during an unofficial mission to help Huntress track down Steven Mandragora, the man responsible for killing her parents. Question decided to keep it as his primary means of transportation aside from JLU teleporters. Months later, when Darkseid led an invasion on Earth, Question used his Pontiac GTO as a blunt weapon against the Parademon army.
