Pagliacci is a two act opera written by composer, Ruggero Leoncavallo, that features a play within a play and a clown who murders his wife. It first premiered in Milan, Italy on May 21, 1892 and continues to play nationwide to today. The original costume is known to travel with the opera.

The score to Pagliacci was once on display in Gotham City at the Walker Music Center. It was the target of the Joker but before he could get away with it, Batman and Robin defeated him and his henchman. The story was retold by a security guard to his nephew, Matt, who then told it to his skeptical friends.
