As far back as the mid-20th century, hover vehicles were the main transportation of advanced civilizations across the universe, such as Krypton. It is incapable of flight but it is capable of elevating itself some distance above the ground through anti-gravitational technology that eliminates a portion of friction which traditionally act on vehicles. The most common form of these vehicles appear to be called hover sleds.

Some 40 years later, hidden civilizations and super villains often employ a similar design to hover sleds, mainly those of Gorilla City, The Key, and various Central City-based super villains such as Mirror Master, Captain Boomerang, and Captain Cold. The technology firm, Alva Industries employs several hover vehicles mainly for use by its private security force. Then some 50 years into the future, hover vehicles are common in every city on Earth. They are sold to civilians, employed in commercial use, and part of the police force. Places in Neo Gotham such as Gotham Shipping and Wayne Research Lab incorporate a hover-lifter to transport heavy duty equipment.
