The Electron Discharge Cannon, or EDC, is a fourth generation energy weapon created as part of a joint American-European endeavor. Maxie Zeus stole the cannon when his company, Maximillian Shipping, was transporting it. Caught up in a delusion that he was the Greek god, Zeus, he installed the EDC atop company headquarters and planned to use it to assert his rule over Gotham City. Before Batman could deactivate it, Zeus fired the EDC on one of the Gotham City Police Department's Gotham Air blimps. During the confrontation, Batman jammed Zeus' lightning staff into the cannon. Zeus lept after it and was electrocuted after an overload built up.
