The Eggbaby is an educational tool with a built-in computer that registers care or lack of, usually through programmed facial expressions. Miss Pinto, a teacher at Hamilton Hill High School, uses them for her home economics course. As part of a final project, a randomly assigned pair of students must raise an eggbaby as their own child. At the end of the project, Pinto would check the eggbaby's rating and assign grades accordingly. In order to get an "A," the Eggbaby must be fully stimulated, not just given its daily needs. Likewise, dropping it on the ground would result in an failing grade. Of all the teams, only Terry McGinnis and Blade Sommers received an A, due in part to McGinnis' taking the Eggbaby with him as Batman. Being subjected to the constant action was the stimulation it needed.
