In the 20th century, communicator watches are limited to those with high mechanical aptitude such as Lex Luthor and Bruce Wayne. Wayne's is more of a secret and is linked to the Batcave. Just in case Wayne is unable to slip away and change into Batman, he issues an alarm for help to his partners Batgirl, Robin, and Nightwing. Communicator watches are mainstream in the mid-21st century. One such application of the technology is used by the security force of the Grandview City Science Museum. Guards can quickly communicate with the security office throughout the sprawling complex in real time. The Joker outfitted a gang of Jokerz with the technology. Chucko wore a standard communicator watch while Ghoul wore a Gothic skull ring.
