In order to help infiltrate the criminal underworld or investigate without the visage of Batman, a cabinet of various disguises are kept in an alcove in the Batcave. He utilizes not only clothing but makeup, gimmicks, and often an accent. At least 13 disguises were used: the drifter Gaff Morgan, a drunkard, a blonde security guard, a janitor, The Baron, Smith, a police officer, Thomas Jackson, Killer Croc, the gangster Matches Malone, a news reporter, a one-eyed sailor, and a politician. In all cases, he could quickly switch into Batman. Decades later, Terry McGinnis also began to create his own disguises to suit missions including a pizza delivery boy, a dog fighter, and a janitor.
