Juan de la Cierva, an engineer, invented the autogyro as part of a contest to create a new type of bomber aircraft. It is a light, short range vehicle that uses an unpowered rotor and engine-powered propeller with the assistance of air to fly. The first gyro was flown on January 9, 1923 at Cuatro Vientos Airfield in Madrid, Spain. A bulkier version is the primary vehicle of Ra's Al Ghul and the interior is decorated in a vague Arabic design, referencing his origins. Notable passengers are Ubu, Talia, Arkady DuVall, Batman, and Robin.
