Though raised by a timid father, Ted Grant became a heavy weight boxing champion in the 1930's. Grant became a fugitive when he was framed for murder by mafioso, Victor Moretti. Grant donned a black costume and became Wildcat. Grant managed to clear his name but continued his double life as Wildcat and patrolled New York City and fought crime. Due to radioactive exposure, Wildcat experienced slowed aging and boasted having "nine lives." Wildcat is a master of hand to hand combat and is mentor within the Justice League Unlimited, training others like Batman and Black Canary.
Wildcat was mainly used as a reserve fighter on frontline battles and began to realize that his assignments were wearing thin and he was being turned into a teacher for the novice members of the JLU more and more. Embittered with this discovery, Wildcat joined an underground metabrawl circit run by Roulette. Wildcat began to dominate and relive the days of being a heavyweight champion. It took some quick thinking by Green Arrow to make Wildcat realize that was the wrong path that he had taken.
