Tasmia Mallor was destined to become the latest Shadow Champion of her native planet, Talok VIII. Mallor was the last in her ancestral line of Talok's greatest warriors and she trained under the Shadow maven. She learned to use the light absorbing energies that she inherited. However, Mallor was exiled from Talok for her beliefs. She joined the Legion of Superheroes to gain a pan-species education as Shadow Lass. At first, Shadow Lass was cold and aloof, and made few friends among the Legion. However, she made up by impressing them with her fighting skills.
