Charles Victor Szasz was an orphan filled with anger towards a world he couldn't understand. He never understand what made people do the things they do to themselves and each other. As Vic Sage, he became an investigative reporter in Hub City. Disillusioned that he couldn't expose the political corruption in Hub City, Sage became a vigilante called the Question. His mask is faceless due to a special compound called 'pseudoderm'. The Question's desire/ obsession with learning everything about everybody has made him seem eccentric to his teammates in the League. Question is also a trained martial artist and is capable of fighting, though he prefers to operate behind the scenes and gather information and expose the situation at hand.
After downloading three Terrabytes of data from a Cadmus terminal, Question spent days without sleep reading secret files and simulations. Question became privy to the Justice Lord fiasco that led to that reality's Luthor's death. He soon became convinced Flash would die, Superman would kill President Lex Luthor, a super human arms race would escalate and end the world in Armageddon. Question decided he would be the one to prevent this from happening by being the one to kill Luthor. However, Luthor had himself discovered his cancer was cured and had the body of a 20 year old. In the confrontation it was Question who was badly beaten and turned over to Cadmus. For one week he was tortured by Dr. Moon but he resisted until Superman and Huntress arrived to free him.
