Todd Rice and his sister Jennie were raised by foster parents after their mother Rose gave them up without telling their father. Todd grew up in Milwaukee with an abusive father, laying the ground for his delicate psyche. Early on, Todd discovered he could manifest shadow powers that reflected his own bitterness and pain. Obsidian can control the 'shadow force' to become a living shadow or send people into the "shadow lands" of their greatest fears.
