Along with her twin, Garth and brother, Mekt, Ayla Ranzz were from the planet Winath. They crash landed on Korbal and encountered Lightning Beasts. Mekt tried to lure them near the ship to recharge it. Instead, the Ranzz' were caught in the Beasts' energy and received elevtrical powers. Garth Ranzz went on to co-found the Legion of Superheroes and Mekt Ranzz became a criminal. Ayla later joined the Legion as Lightning Lass, Winath's official representative.
