Garth Ranzz received his super powers when he, his twin sister Ayla and older brother Mekt were attacked by lightning beasts on the planet Korbal. Later, Garth was one of a trio of teenagers that saved R.J. Brande's life on Earth. As Lightning Lad, Garth was one of the first members of the Legion of Superheroes. Ayla covered for her brother, when Garth set out to stop his brother Mekt from abusing his power. Lightning Lad can absorb and generate electricity.
