Katma Tui is a native of the planet Korugar. She was raised during the oppression by the Green Lantern, Sinestro. Tui soon joined the planet's resistance group and was able to seek out the help of the Green Lantern Corps. During Sinestro's trial, Katma's testimony solidified Sinestro's conviction. Tomar-Re recommended that she be Sinestro's replacement as Green Lantern of Space Sector 1417. After being trained by Kilowog, she became a teacher in her own right. She later trained John Stewart whom she shared a romantic relationship.
Currently, Tui trains Kyle Rayner, the successor of Abin-Sur. When Despero altered John Stewart's control of his ring, Tui took it upon herself to retrain him. Tui was disturbed by the Green Lantern Corps forgetting about the subtle use of the ring. While Tui and Stewart share an intimate relationship, they both have different obligations and parted ways.
