Abin Sur was once the Green Lantern of Space Sector 2814. However, he was mortally wounded by the vengeful Sinestro. With his last ounce of strength, he sent a ring to find a new deserving host. Sur's body vaporized and the ring chose Kyle Rayner. Abin Sur's ring is one of the only known to manage to escape the clutches of Sinestro, who keeps them as trophies after killing each Green Lantern.
