Wally West lives in Central City in the American Mid-West. West works for the local Police Department's Forensics team. While toiling away one night, a lightning bolt struck West. The electro-chemical accident gifted West with super speed. He decided to use his power for good and became the superhero, the Flash. Flash nicknamed himself the "Fastest Man Alive," and put off most of Central City with his brash and impulsive attitude. But early on, the Flash worked with charitable organizations. The city of Metropolis organized the "Fastest Man Alive" charity race between the Flash and Superman. The first man to circle the planet 100 times would be declared the winner. Both would be tracked by electric clamps placed on themselves. One of Flash's enemies, Mardon (later the Weather Wizard) took advantage of the situation and exchanged the clamps for ones of his own. The race would generate enough power for the wizard to ransom the US government. The race was cancelled and both Superman and the Flash stopped Weather Wizard.

Aside from his juvenile attitude, the Flash had a reoccuring nightmare that he moved so fast, that everyone else was left virtually frozen. The Flash never solved the theme of the nightmare until years later when he was a founding member of the Justice League. Flash held the distinction of being the youngest member and flippant. His quick wit and over reliance on his powers often annoyed more serious teammates like Green Lantern.

The Flash briefly worked in advertising. The work caught the attention of talk show host, Glorious Godfrey. Godfrey took advantage of bashing the Justice League as a whole to boost his own ratings. Meanwhile, the Heart of Darkness began to exchange hands and weave a plan to plummet the planet in eternal darkness. The Flash met Mophir, guardian of the Heart, and realized he wasn't just another psychotic. Instead, Flash learned about the Heart and its inhabitants, the Ophidian race. Mophir allowed Flash to take his gem with him. With it, the Flash could generate pure light to drive the Ophidians back into the Heart. Hawkgirl quickly shattered it and the shards were embedded in everyone but the Flash. Alone and injured, he attempted to SOS Batman but failed. Flash lured everyone to the Watchtower's light source and defeated the Ophidians.

However, the Ophidians already launched the Anti-Fusion Device into the Sun. J'onn Jonzz deduced an Einstein-Rosen Bridge would be able to drain the anti-fusion matter. In the before-hand skirmish, the League's Javelin was badly damaged. The required wormhole generator was safe but in order to activate it, it had to be going at lightspeed. Green Lantern decided to initially propel the Flash and generate the path for him to run. Seven and a half minutes into the run, the Flash would have to activate the generator or risk further damaging the Sun. He survived the ordeal by a thread.

During the infant years of the newly formed, Justice League Unlimited, the Flash took pro-active measures of his own. He made Central City his priority and took an offensive stance at the growing crime rate plaguing the city. Eventually, the Flash succeeded and earned the love and respect of the city's populace.

While the founding members of the Justice League fought the combined effort of Lex Luthor and Brainiac, only the Flash was left standing. He tapped further into the Speed Force, the source of his powers. Flash used light speed vibrations to effectively destroy Brainiac and without harming Luthor. However, Flash lost control of his power and nearly merged with the Speed Force. J'onn Jonzz made telepathic contact and the six founders managed to form a human chain and pull Flash away from the Speed Force.

A year after the Brainiac incident, the Flash was recognized by Central City for his heroism in the Thanagarian invasion, his charitable works and his recent war on crime. In his honor, the Flash was awarded with the key to the city and his very own Flash Appreciation Day in which a public Flash Museum would be opened. The Museum contains various mannequins of his Rogues Gallery and various items such as a depiction of the "Fastest Man Alive Race" he participated in against Superman, the Kid Flash costume and a helmet that once belonged to Jay Garrick, the first Flash decades ago. The opening was crashed by three of Flash's enemies, Captain Boomerang, Captain Cold and Mirror Master. The mueseum was trashed in the aftermath but Flash was more concerned that no one was hurt in the process. The reporter covering the event, Linda Park made several advances in vain.

When a simple locator spell went wrong, the Flash found himself in Lex Luthor's body and vice versa. The Flash discovered he was at a crucial moment; Luthor was facing a mounting mutiny for focusing only on reconstituting Brainiac and leading a train robbery of Euro's heading to Kaznia. Luthor got ahold of a communication link and revealed the switch happened. Just in time, Luthor was caught and Dr. Fate rectified the situation.

The Flash ran to the Metrotower after he received a distress call while he was out on a date as Wally West. He hoped there was a major crisis going on but he was elated to see the League threw him a surprise birthday party. He noted not even his own family ever threw him a surprise party. However, Granny Goodness then Kalibak boomed into the tower with their forces intent on destroying the League to legitimize taking the throne of Apokolips. Flash thought it was the best birthday part ever and cleaned up the mess in 7.5 seconds. J'onn J'onzz, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Shayera Hol, Batman, Vixen, and Green Lantern took Overman to the Watchtower with Lois Lane. After Wonder Woman vanished, they boarded the Infinity-1 Javelin and took off for one of the mysterious vortexes. Flash wasn't so sure J'onn should connect his mind to the Javelin's A.I. system. He wasn't encouraged by him saying it "should" help them navigate the warp. Upon entry of the vortex, Flash became alarmed the energies erupting around them were overloading the Javelin's force fields but J'onn stressed too much depended on them and they couldn't abort the mission.

Infinity-1 experienced the equivalent of a cosmic tsunami upon entering the vortex. Flash pointed out the obvious that things weren't going as planned. Batman told him to be quiet if he didn't have something useful to offer. Green Lantern contended Flash had a point and predicted the ship was going to be torn apart. An evil, deadlier, and infinitely more powerful doppelganger of Amazo dubbed Amazo II cast the battle into the landscapes of everyone's minds. Flash and Vixen fought Overman together but were grabbed by the throats. Both Martian Manhunters discovered Amazo II's ruse and revealed the truth. Green Lantern managed to form a bubble construct and saved himself, J'onn J'onzz, Wonder Woman, Flash, and Batman from being wiped out. Batman wasn't convinced they could beat the darkness this time but when Lantern said it out loud after he snapped at Flash, Batman quoted Superman about holding on to hope in the darkest times. He clarified he would like to believe that. Lantern asked him how long he thought he could hold the bubble. Lantern focused every ounce of his will into keeping the construct intact as his ring ran out of power and as the Anti-Life ate away at it.

Batman recalled Flash said the Speed Force was a primal energy that drove time and space forward. Flash understood and ran around the circumference of the bubble. The vibrational force helped keep the Anti-Life at bay. With her permission, J'onn probed Wonder Woman's mind. He realized the parallel version of Darkseid that Wonder Woman met bequeathed her with the Life Equation and she was the key to saving the Multiverse. Flash implored them to unleash it because he was running so fast, his thighs were chafing. He eventually lost consciousness. Batman and Wonder Woman called forth the Life Equation and unleashed it. The Anti-Life Equation was destroyed and the Multiverse was restored to normal. Superman suggested a small celebration at the Watchtower so they could decompress. Flash shoveled slices of cake down his mouth at super speed while he told Booster Gold and Blue Beetle about the final battle with Amazo II. Booster was disgusted but oddly could not turn away.

Elongated Man arrived and announced there was a report that Gorilla Grodd and an army of mutant gorillas invaded Washington DC. Flash sighed but Blue Beetle countered he loved that kind of stuff. Flash admitted he did as everyone in the party left for DC.
