Hank Heywood III agreed to endure a series of brutal operations that replaced his bones with titanium. Implanted micro-motors and servomechanisms enhanced his muscle mass, sub-dermal plasti-steel mesh lined a new fibroplast skin making him nigh invulnerable and cybernetic implants increased his visual and auditory senses. After a long recovery process, Heywood's body was able to adjust to the bio-chemical treatments and implants. Heywood became Commander Steel complete with super strength, speed, agility, enhanced hearing and infrared vision.
