Chuck Taine is a long time member of the Legion of Superheroes. Taine has the ability to inflate his body and use himself as a projectile. While serving on the Legion as Bouncing Boy, he fell in love with Luornus Durgo, Triplicate Girl, and later became supervisor and co-instructor at the Legion Academy. Taine also has skills in the architectural field and helped design the Legion's headquarters.
Bouncing Boy was the last of two Legion members that weren't kidnapped by the Fatal Five and programmed to attack the United Nations capital. Bouncing Boy begrudgingly agreed with Brainiac 5 to use the Time Bubble device to retrieve help from the past. They met Supergirl, Green Arrow and Green Lantern, John Stewart. He was soon taken as well. After Green Arrow destroyed the carrier wave, the Legion regained consciousness and gathered up the Fatal Five for arrest.
