Even in deep space, bacteria can thrive. Sometime in the 1970's, Titano encountered bacteria, hidden in gas pockets, during a meteor shower. They infected Titano and forced it into a lethargic state. 20 years later, the ship landed on Earth. Exposure to the Earth's atmosphere caused a series of enormous growth spurts. Superman and the SCU turned to knockout gas to sedate Titano. STAR Lab technicians were able to determine the origination of the growth spurts from the bacteria. It increased in size and attacked the technicians. Thanks to Superman, no one was harmed by it. It is assumed they were destroyed after Titano was relocated to an island.
