Dr. Mike Morgan was a top physicist employed at the Bayridge Research Facility. He also was romantically involved with fellow researcher, Mary Michaels. Morgan's dream life became a nightmare after a particle fusion experiment mutated him into a giant with a magma covered body. Unable to maintain physical contact with anything and learning of his vanishing health, Morgan went psychotic and convinced his teammates to take revenge on all of Gotham City.
