Tony Machek worked with Bill Wallace at a new factory in Gotham. Wallace lacked the funding to properly dispose of toxic industrial waste and convinced Machek to use an abandoned mineshaft to use as a dumping site. He was caught in an accident and left to die. The waste scrambled his DNA with other materials and bonded Machek to the land. Over time, he mutated and was reduced to base logic. Machek created drones made of animated soil and planned to kidnap Wallace and his dughter. Batman pursued and rescued the two before a mass cave-in occurred.
