Dr. Hodges was the fourth member of a team of physicists funded by the government to carry out a particle fusion experiment. Hodges was privy to the dangers of the experiment. At critical mass, the fusion radiation couldn't be contained. Hodges was called away while the three were exposed and mutated. Hodges was secretly in love with lab partner, Mary Michaels who actually loved the third team mate, Dr. Morgan. Hodges and Michaels were both meant to be spared from the experiment. Hodges agreed to let the government manipulate the scientists into becoming a super hero group, despite signs of physical deteriotion.
