DeSaad is the master inquisitor of Darkseid, and a sadist who takes pleasure in inflicting pain and misery onto the denizens of Apokolips.
Centuries ago, Queen Heggra, former ruler of Apokolips and mother of Darkseid, ordered DeSaad to murder the sorceress Suli. Suli secretly married Darkseid. He found out the truth and decided to spare DeSaad. In return, Darkseid had him murder Heggra. This would lay down the potential for Darkseid to eventually ascend as the next ruler.
Often seen at the side of Darkseid, Desaad's biased council is spoken. However, at times, Desaad disagrees with his master's decisions. In one instance, when Darkseid was searching for the solution to the Anti-Life Equation, he incurred the wrath of the New Gods who placed their protection over several planets. Desaad openly voiced his disagreement at the slip of the tongue and was vaporized by Darkseid's Omega Effect.
