Earl was able to convince his employers that the solution was a two seat sports car. Named after a fighting frigate, the Corvette was handbuilt in Flint, Michigan. The outer body utilized revolutionary fiber glass, as steel was heavily used up in wartime while the inner components were the standard Chevorlet type; "Blue Flame" inline six cylinder truck engine, Two speed Powerglide Automatic Transmission and Drum Brakes. In 1955, Zora Arkus-Duntov put the V8 and three speed transmission into the Corvette and made it a hot sales item.
