Greg Sanders was the grandson of an Indian fighter and son of a Wyoming sheriff. When he reached his 20's, Sanders moved to New York City to pursue a career as a country music star. He was renowned on radio as the "Prairie Troubadour."
However, he returned home when he learned his father was killed gang of bandits in a stagecoach heist in 1936. Taking on the Western themed identity of Vigilante, he decided battle crime. The Vigilante surfaced in New York City and fought organized crime and a few super villains. Years later, he joined the Justice League of America.
