S.T.A.R. Labs is a private research and development firm dedicated to working at the forefront of science and technology. With the emergence of super-humans, S.T.A.R. began to shift its focus to studying super-human biology and technology. Dr. Silas Stone established the Red Room, a high clearance level facility within S.T.A.R. Labs Metropolis to collect and analyze foreign, extraterrestrial and sentient technologies deemed too dangerous to share with the world. Dr. Stone logged many hours studying, logging, taking apart, and rebuilding nearly every technology confiscated.

The Flash confronted and killed a Parademon attempting to plant a Mother Box in Central City. He turned both over to S.T.A.R. Labs in Metropolis. Dr. Stone and his team conducted dozens of tests and were unable to learn a single thing. A few days later, Thomas Morrow determined the Mother Box was broadcasting a signal detected in Coast City, Gotham City, and Metropolis. After 9 PM Eastern Standard Time (EST), Victor Stone stormed in and demanded to speak with his father, Dr. Stone. However, the Mother Box activated itself and transmitted. In a rage, Victor Stone grabbed the Mother Box and was caught in a back wash of radiation as a Boom Tube was generated. Parademons poured out of the portal and abducted several scientists and staff. Dr. Stone, Sarah Charles, and Morrow fled the lab with Victor Stone to the Red Room. Dr. Stone placed him in an iron lung then subjected him to a Promethium skin graft and nanite injection.

Eventually, the Parademons forced their way in but Stone emerged as a cyborg and killed them. The Flash arrived in response to Dr. Stone's frantic call. Cyborg stumbled back to the other lab, downloaded information on Apokolips, closed the Boom Tube and secured the Mother Box. Following the trail of Parademons, Shazam flew to S.T.A.R. Labs and recognized Stone. After the Apokoliptian invasion, S.T.A.R. Labs Metropolis housed the headquarters of the Super Seven later known as the Justice League. Amid construction of the branch, Cyborg was given environmental upgrades and assigned by Colonel Trevor to retrieve missiles from a downed U.S. submarine, the S.S. California. Cyborg returned with damaged servos and called a meeting of the Justice League. When only Shazam and Flash answered the summons, they went in person to inform the other members.

The S.S. California was salvaged and taken to S.T.A.R. Labs. The Justice League searched the submarine and determined four squadrons damaged it by hand. After reviewing Cyborg's encounter, Atlantis came up in discussion. Flash, Green Lantern, Shazam, and Cyborg stayed behind to gather intelligence on the possible location of Atlantis. Without much progress, they were dispatched to Mercy Reef to find Arthur Curry. Once the League located Arthur and helped dispatch the Trenchers attacking him, they split up again. Batman, Flash, and Shazam returned to S.T.A.R. Labs Metropolis for monitor duty. The giant tidal wave generated by Orm triggered an alert. After Orm was defeated, Cyborg returned for repairs. While having a moment with Dr. Charles, Cyborg was interrupted by Shazam. Cyborg and Shazam departed for Atlantis to witness Arthur's coronation. Months later, S.T.A.R. Labs was tasked with analyzing the remains of the Talons. Bruce Wayne surmised the results would be released within the week.

For over half a year after the Court of Owls incident, S.T.A.R. Labs and Wayne Tech collaborated on the Watchtower Initiative, a joint venture aimed to address threats in the modern world. The prototype Watchtower was secretly docked in Gotham City and used as the location of the World Tech Summit. During his keynote speech, Bruce Wayne gave the word and the Watchtower rose into the sky. Talia al Ghul and her gang of costumed supervillains infiltrated the base and attempted to brainwash all the heads of state and military leaders. In the conflict between them and Batman's allies, a thruster was damaged. The Watchtower nearly drifted into the Wayne Enterprises but Robin diverted power to the two functional thrusters and Batwing used all his rocket boosters to try to stop its approach.
