The Labyrinth is an elaborate underground unicursal maze fashioned by the Court of Owls after the maze of the same name from classical Greek mythology. In the myth, Daedalus constructed it for King Minos of Crete at Knossos to hold the Minotaur. Daedalus could barely escape it himself. The Court built their Labyrinth under their secret base in an abandoned section of Gotham City's sewer system. The odorless psychotropic drug the Court flooded the section with was designed to complement the Labyrinth. It would enter the pores of the skin and gnaw at the roots of the minds turning the psyche back in on itself and winding until it resembled nothing so much as a labyrinth. After Batman discovered the Court's location, he was dropped down into the Labyrinth. He was attacked by an owl and his left eye was slashed. Mocked with the Court of Owls neursery rhyme and drugged, Batman was undaunted. Eventually, Batman experienced an apocalyptic hallucination and saw a future of terrible destruction brought upon an adult Damian Wayne, who was consumed with rage and hatred, as Batman.
