One night, after taking in a movie, the Waynes walked down Crime Alley. They were held up by a petty criminal. Thomas and Martha Wayne were both fatally shot. As the criminal ran away, Bruce Wayne knelt at his parents' side and watched an owl fly over them. Police officers raced to the scene. Decades later, Batman was exposed to a psychotropic drug employed by the Court of Owls. He had a hallucination that started back in Crime Alley. Confronted by his younger self, Batman watched as the petty criminal revealed himself to be another Batman, an adult Damian Wayne. He witnessed an apocalyptic future brought about by Damian's rage and hatred and realized the errors of his parenting. Months later, while being subjected to Mad Hatter's brainwashing regime, Wayne experienced the tragedy in Crime Alley. He saw his younger self in the reflection of a water puddle then his parents' killer turned into bats and attacked him. Wayne was dragged underwater by his parents where he was pulled down deeper by Nightwing, Commissioner Gordon, Alfred Pennyworth, Robin, Ra's al Ghul, and Lucius Fox.
