The Trenchers are predatory creatures that scavenged the ocean's floor since before Atlantis sank. At Black Manta's suggestion, Orm made a pact with the Trenchers as part of his plan to cleanse the surface world. After a team of Atlanteans failed to kill Arthur Curry, Trenchers were sent. While battling Curry and Mera, the Trenchers were suddenly attacked by the Justice League. Upon Superman's landing, he activated his heat vision and told the Trenchers to retreat. They listened. Upset by another setback, Orm mused the Trenchers would return to Atlantis hungry for meat. He took matters into his own hands and neutralized Curry, Mera and several Leaguers then encased them in pods. The Trenchers transported the pods to the edge of dark trench and threw them in. With Orm's coup a failure, Trenchers en masse approached Atlantis. King Arthur and Mera cut them off at the edge of the city. Arthur summoned all marine life nearby to aid them. The Trenchers were soundly defeated.
