Mr. Mxyzptlk teleported the Clark Kent, Lois Lane, Jimmy Olsen he previously encountered along with their Supergirl to another dimension in beach clothes. A disembodied voice declared the contest had begun. Mxyzptlk explained he was getting divorced from his wife Gsptlsnz but their people settled things with a game instead of a court room and lawyers. They were his team and both teams would participate in a series of challenges, each challenge cleared gets them a key and entry to the next ring, and whoever's team collected the most keys and got to the center ring fastest determined who got the house, speedboat, galaxy, and what not. Supergirl asked what happened if they refused to be pawns. Mxyzptlk revealed the losers would never see their precious universe again. He was confident he would win since he had Superman on his team. Kent revealed he lost his powers. Gsptlsnz laughed at Mxyzptlk's expense and introduced her team: General Lois Lane, Good Lex Luthor, Scion Supergirl, and Flamebird Jimmy.
Mxyzptlk wanted the playing field leveled but Gsptlsnz taunted him "buyer beware." He got his rule approved: no flying. He quickly explained the first game was simply crossing the bridge to the key the fastest. Scion Kara threw a brick at Kara's head during the race. Mxyzptlk was annoyed to see it end in a tie and reminded them they're supposed to win. The next game split the players by gender. Gsptlsnz told the girls whoever made it to the top of the S'ivaan Mountain won but warned those who were too slow or fell off the mountain would fall into the Manticore trench. Mxyzptlk explained the "boy challenge" was to find all the portal pieces, put them together to make a portal, and leave. Olsen was surprised that was it. Mxyzptlk yelled it was and teleported away. General Lane and Scion Kara took the early lead. General Lane grabbed Lois Lane and purposefully let them fall to help ensure Scion Kara won. Scion Kara nearly fell through a hole but Kara Zor-El pulled her out of it.
General Lane wanted to keep moving and find an exit but Lane wanted to hide. Lane pointed out they could barely see, didn't know the area, and there was a Manticore hunting them. General Lane stated Lanes were doers, not complainers. Lane didn't think she was complaining and suggested waiting where they fell in case the Karas needed them. General Lane coldly stated if they joined them, they failed and could handle the consequences. Lane thought they were so different. General Lane listed her life off: mom died, dad was distant, all she wanted was to work but instead found the Superman of his dreams, learned the meaning of friendship, and had a real swell time. She revealed after her Clark Kent lost his powers, he died. She implored Lane to judge her but asserted the line between them wasn't as thin as she thought. The Manticore found them. Scion Kara knocked Kara off the mountain. She landed between the Lanes and the Manticore. Kara accused her of cheating. Scion Kara pointed out she won and her counterpart had the opportunity to do the same but didn't. She taunted her not to lie to herself, she wanted to cheat, too, because that is who they are.
Olsen found a portal piece but Good Lex Luthor swiped it because it was clearly for their portal. Olsen claimed it was hard to tell if it was an orange one. Luthor wondered how many more pieces got stolen by mistake. Olsen took offense to being called a liar. Luthor clarified he was suggesting foul play. Olsen retorted he would only think like that if he were doing the same thing. Kent told Luthor it was an honest mistake and as a compromise he would look with a piece with him and the Jimmys would go look together so make sure everyone was playing fair. Everyone agreed. Flamebird Jimmy was stoked. Kent asked Luthor how they all ended up together. Luthor stated "no more Superman" and found one of their pieces. Kent asked what happened to his Superman. Luthor admitted he made a mistake and with Superman gone, they didn't stand a chance when the Hunger Dogs came and everything changed for the worst. He stated they did what they had to then snapped at him if he was helping or not. Kent resumed looking around.
Olsen admitted the Flamebird suit was awesome. Looking on the bright side, Flamebird Jimmy thought if the Hunger Dogs hadn't come, he wouldn't have such a sick suit. He was touted their Luthor was good and they were as close as they were before their Clark died. Olsen didn't think they were doing great. Flamebird emphasized he was a superhero. Olsen tried to ask him if he was upset or worried but Mxyzptlk booed him and threw popcorn out of boredom. He was angry the girls were already done. He ordered the Hell Hippos to be released. Olsen nor Kent had the last piece. Mxyzptlk revealed there was only one piece left and tossed it. Olsen and Luthor grabbed at it at the same time. Kent told Olsen to give up the piece since he had no superpowers to fight the hippos. Luthor completed his portal and went through it with Flamebird Jimmy. Team Glitzy won the second game. Reading from "Book of Compliments," she patted Flamebird Jimmy and told him good work. The teams were teleported to a cavern with crystals. Mxyzptlk quickly explained it was a maze and they would win by choosing the one true path but warned them not to let the trail go cold.
Team Glitzy were frozen solid. Supergirl realized the game was a trick and there was no one true path, the future was theirs to shape. Mxyzptlk wasn't interested in Supergirl explaining the solution to the others and took the key. Kent asked about the other team. Mxyzptlk brought them in with a column of water, calling them a bunch of drips then a total wash. He had more insults but Gsptlsnz added the key to hers and inserted them into the Cosmic Anvil. She announced there was one more game left. Mxyzptlk snapped his fingers and teammates were paired off into big hamster balls then a course appeared. Gsptlsnz wanted to keep them but Mxyzptlk warned her she always got attached, they died, and she got sad. She claimed her empathy made her likable. Before the game started, Lane objected because things weren't adding up. Good Luthor agreed and pointed out it didn't seem to matter who won the keys. Kent added it only seemed to matter if they were won. Lane wondered why they both won the first game. Good Luthor noticed the keys went to the same place no matter who won them.
Lane asked who was that on the anvil. Mxyzptlk tried to downplay things but Supergirl broke all the balls. Mxyzptlk and Gsptlsnz explained the Cosmic Anvil could reshape the universe but the keys unlocked its power and the keys could only be gained by mortals due to a curse that barred immortals. They offered the winners the change to reshape their universe. Flamebird Jimmy realized they could get their Clark back. Kent was surprised they said "Clark" and not "Superman." General Lane felt they lost everything when they lost Clark, not when Superman lost his powers. She thought it was worth the risk to keep playing. Kent objected and tried to warn them not to trust Mxyzptlk then asked what happened to the losers. Mxyzptlk revealed they would get turned into a pet for Gsptlsnz, maybe a ficus. They caught him calling Gsptlsnz his "beloved wife." Mxyzptlk confessed this was a date, not a divorce, with some good old fashioned role play to spice things up.
They revealed Kent's secret identity to get Good Luthor to get him to agree to refuse to play, too. Luthor realized his teammates knew it all along. He admitted his one regret was not listening to Superman when he had the chance and he wasn't going to make the same mistake twice. Mxyzptlk became irate. Kent called his bluff and implored him to kill them. He didn't. Time ran out. The disembodied voice declared the hour had come and since the contest had no victor, his seal remained unbroken. He bid farewell to the players then told Mxyzptlk to burn in hell. Mxyzptlk threw a fit and pounded the ground like a bratty child. Gsptlsnz was turned off and teleported away. The teams returned to their universes.
